NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This year’s theme, “Blak, Loud and Proud,” encourages the vibrant celebration of Indigenous identity and storytelling.
As part of the $250 million Griffith Base Hospital Redevelopment, an art strategy has been developed in consultation with the local community to reflect Griffith’s diverse population and ensure the voices and stories of the local Aboriginal community are heard.
One feature artwork is the Yarning Circle, designed as a gathering space with outdoor sound speakers that will share cultural stories from the local Aboriginal community, enhancing the connection between land and culture.
Local Aboriginal artists are creating the audio artwork, integrating Indigenous stories and language into the Hospital’s environment.
Construction of the new Griffith Base Hospital is on track and expected to be completed in early 2025. This will be followed by a commissioning period before services are transferred from the current hospital and the new facility is operational.
