Building structure for Gunnedah Hospital’s new acute services building now complete

The Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment has reached a significant milestone, with the structure of the new acute services building completed and the new roof installed.

The NSW Government is investing $53 million in the Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment which includes construction of a new acute services building, housing an expanded emergency department and a modern birthing, maternity, and inpatient unit.

In the coming months work will progress on the internal fit-out and exterior works.

Work is also underway around the hospital campus to install and connect new services to support the new hospital building. It follows the completion of the building’s foundations last year, which saw nearly 500 cubic metres of concrete poured.

The new hospital’s design reflects the Gunnedah landscape and includes modern, calming, and welcoming spaces that have been designed in consultation with staff and the local community to support contemporary models of care.

As part of Health Infrastructure’s Arts in Health program, five artists were recently commissioned to create artworks for the new hospital building and have commenced consultation with hospital staff.

Construction of the new acute services building is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment is being delivered by Hunter New England Local Health District, Health Infrastructure, with Richard Crookes Constructions the principal contractor.
