Community workshops shape the vision for Arts in health at Ryde Hospital Redevelopment

Community members and hospital staff came together to celebrate Ryde Hospital’s 90th anniversary and creatively explore the connections between history, community and place.

Under the guidance of renowned collage artist Kubi Vasak, participants engaged in workshops, exploring collage techniques and sharing their personal experiences of Ryde Hospital to create artworks with unique meaning.

Mr Vasak will now create a series of original collages, using historical images and references for future display in the redeveloped hospital, inspired by the stories and artwork created during the session.

The workshops form part of the Arts In Health strategy for the Ryde Hospital Redevelopment, which integrates art to create engaging public health spaces alongside improve clinical health and wellbeing outcomes for patients, staff and visitors.

The redevelopment’s Arts and Culture Working Group was established in April 2022 comprising Ryde Hospital staff and the community, with the group informing the vision for arts integration at the new hospital.

The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment will transform the delivery of healthcare in Ryde and its surrounding suburbs, delivering a new and expanded Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit, new theatres, new purpose-built ambulatory care centre, new paediatric short stay unit, more adult overnight inpatient beds and expanded medical imaging.

The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment Arts in Health Strategy is being implemented in partnership with Northern Sydney Local Health District.
