Works for the new Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital’s Northeast Building are set to begin in the coming weeks.
Following a competitive tender process, Albury based firm, Hansen Yuncken, has been engaged to deliver the first stage of works of the $558 million project, which includes construction of the Northeast Building and a temporary car park. Site establishment works will commence, following planning determination.
Hansen Yuncken has worked on a range of major health projects throughout Northeast Victoria and regional NSW, including: Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre; Dubbo Hospital; Wagga Wagga Base Hospital; and Orange Base Hospital.
Once complete, the new Northeast Building will accommodate a range of health services and staff currently located in and adjacent to the existing allied health building. Relocation of those services and staff will enable the construction to commence on the new multi-storey clinical services building.
Due for completion in late 2026, the Northeast Building will include:
- allied health clinical spaces, including therapy and consultation rooms;
- outpatients including specialist outpatient clinics, cardiac clinic, pre-admission clinics;
- administrative areas for health services;
- pharmacy;
- conference rooms and library; and
- medical staff lounge.
The Northeast Building will feature a new link bridge, connecting the hospital’s existing public entry level, which will improve access to key areas on campus, including medical imaging, patient wards and main entry. Flexibility to provide opportunities for future service expansion has been a key consideration in the design of the new building.
The design of the new Northeast Building has been informed by project user groups, including clinicians and other staff who will be located in the new building.
The $558 million Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project is estimated to support approximately 1,000 direct jobs with the potential for supporting thousands of indirect jobs over the life of the project.
Current services at Albury Campus will continue to operate during construction. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption, with staff, stakeholders and the community regularly updated as work progresses.
Planning and design for the broader Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project is progressing, which will consolidate complex healthcare on the Albury Campus to improve safety for patients and reduce the duplication of services and need for urgent travel between the Wodonga and Albury Hospital campuses.
The project includes a new multi-storey Clinical Services Building and will deliver a mix of new and refurbished facilities with the latest medical technology.
