South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) has been named as a finalist in the Excellence in Multicultural Healthcare category at the 2024
NSW Health Awards for its innovative community engagement on the $830 million
Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital.
With 50 per cent of the local population speaking a language other than English at home, SWSLHD developed a specially designed Multicultural Partnership Strategy to engage with the region’s diverse community.
The partnership strategy facilitated face-to-face in-language information sessions which were attended by hundreds of people from multicultural community groups.
The engagement sessions offered participants the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to the redevelopment team and the hospital through interpreters.
This initiative aimed to enhance health literacy and create inclusive spaces for valuable feedback.
The successful approach is now being adapted for the
New Bankstown Hospital and
Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment, further strengthening connections between healthcare services and local communities.
Health Infrastructure is delivering the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct to expand, enhance and optimise services at Liverpool Hospital, benefitting the communities of south western Sydney.
