Construction of the $30 million Wentworth Health Service Redevelopment is progressing, with the completion of the first concrete pour.
Over 40 trucks delivered around 340 cubic metres of concrete for the new hospital’s foundation, following more than 18,000 tonnes of material for the structure, surrounding landscape, and car park.
When complete, the new hospital will include a contemporary 19-bed inpatient unit, Urgent Care Centre, and community health services, replacing the current Wentworth Hospital, which is over 80 years old.
The new building will provide a modern and purpose-built facility for the region, elevated above the existing flood levee, with all inpatient rooms featuring views of the Darling River at Wentworth.
The redevelopment will also include a cultural piece for the hospital entry, a display wall featuring artwork by local school children, and a historical display to reflect the heritage of the hospital.
The hospital’s artwork will celebrate local Barkandji history, Country, and culture, and acknowledge the important role the hospital has played in the Wentworth community.
The current hospital remains fully operational as the main works progress, with construction of the Wentworth Health Service Redevelopment expected to be completed in 2025.
