Communities across the south coast of NSW are a step closer to enhanced healthcare services with main works construction underway on the new $330 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital.
Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park, and Member for Bega Dr Michael Holland, joined Health Infrastructure Acting Chief Executive Emma Skulander and local health workers to mark the major milestone at a sod turn event.
“Today marks a major milestone in the delivery of the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital, which will transform access to healthcare for generations to come,” Ms Skulander said.
“The new purpose-built hospital has been carefully designed with input from clinicians, staff, and the community, and will cater to the unique needs of the growing and ageing population of the region.”
It will provide more health services than currently available at both the Moruya and Batemans Bay Hospitals combined.
The Eurobodalla Regional Hospital includes:
- An emergency department with a larger capacity than the current combined emergency services of Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals
- Eurobodalla’s first Intensive Care Unit / Close Observation Unit Increased access for chemotherapy treatments and renal dialysis
- Surgical and operating theatres as well as a day stay surgical unit
- Expanded medical imaging, including a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging service
- Ambulatory care for community outpatient services
- Paediatric and maternity services, and a special care nursery
- Mental health beds for short term admissions
- Enhanced education and training facilities, including a simulation laboratory.
The project is estimated to support approximately 600 direct jobs with the potential for supporting thousands of indirect jobs over the life of the project.
Construction of the new hospital is expected to be completed in 2027.
