Port Macquarie residents will welcome the news that the first sod has been turned on the $11.5 million Stage 1 car park expansion for Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
The car park expansion complements Port Macquarie Base Hospital’s completed $104 million redevelopment which delivered a new emergency department, additional beds, operating theatres, inpatient wards and services.
Health Infrastructure’s project team joined the Local Health District, hospital staff and political representatives to celebrate the event.
Stage 1 will see the construction of a 113-space staff parking area. The total investment will deliver over 300 new car parking spaces, helping to ease the burden on staff, patients and visitors to the busy regional hospital, and is due for completion in 2020.
Port Macquarie Base Hospital is the major referral hospital for the Hastings Macleay Clinical Network and provides the majority of specialist medical and surgical services for communities in the region.
Adding to this, the new $17.5 million, 24-bed Port Macquarie Mental Health Expansion Project is due for completion in June 2019.
