Main works contractor awarded for Wollongong Hospital imaging facility

Patients at Wollongong Hospital are one step closer to benefitting from additional imaging services following the appointment of the main works contractor to build a new facility to house new MRI and CT scanners.

The work is part of the NSW Government’s $21.9 million investment to enhance health services and infrastructure at Wollongong Hospital for staff, patients and the community.

The additional MRI and CT scanners will be housed in a new facility, which will be located on the ground floor of Wollongong Hospital near the Emergency Department, ensuring that emergency patients can access CT and MRI services in a timely manner.

Taylor Construction Group has been engaged following a competitive tender process to build the facility.

As part of the work, the existing Medical Assessment Centre (MAC) will be relocated to a new location within the hospital, which will enable expanded outpatient services.

Main works construction is expected to start in early 2025, with the medical imaging facility expected to be completed in late 2025.
