Orange community provided first look at Palliative Care Expansion

An artist’s impression of the Palliative Care Expansion at Orange Health Service has been unveiled, providing Orange and surrounding communities with its first look at the design.

The design has been developed in consultation with health professionals who provide end-of-life and palliative care, Aboriginal representatives, carers and community members, ensuring the unit meets the needs of patients, their families and the surrounding communities.

The expanded unit will provide privacy and space for patients and families, including three dedicated palliative care bedrooms with ensuites, support spaces, and an outdoor courtyard, as well as communal areas.

The new palliative care rooms will be located at the Orange Health Service, near the oncology ward and existing palliative care bedrooms and facilities, ensuring connectivity with existing services.

This expansion will better support the hospital’s Specialist Palliative Care Service to provide inpatient end-of-life and palliative care for patients and their families during what can be one of the most difficult times in their lives.

The new Palliative Care Unit is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $93 million investment in the World Class End of Life Care Program to redevelop and enhance palliative care units across the state.

Several Palliative Care facilities are being redeveloped or refurbished as part of the program, including new and expanded units at Westmead, Nepean, Wyong and Tamworth.
