Take a look inside Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital’s robotic pharmacy

Monday 4 April 2022

An innovative robotic pharmacy delivered under the $265 million Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Stage 2 Redevelopment is making a big difference to the way hospital pharmacy staff are able to work.

The first of its kind in NSW public hospital, the robot can select and dispense medications and conduct stocktakes faster, reducing errors and wastage and allowing pharmacists to spend more time with patients.

The new state-of-the-art robotic pharmacy department is also more than double its previous size.

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital’s Director of Pharmacy Catherine Richards provides a snapshot of some of the efficiencies the robotic pharmacy is bringing to the new department.

Stage 2 of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Redevelopment follows on from the $121 million Stage 1 Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Redevelopment, which saw the construction of a new clinical and support services facility named the STAR building (surgical, theatres, anesthetics and recovery).

This project is being delivered in partnership with Health Infrastructure and Northern Sydney Local Health District.
