Another milestone reached for the Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment

The first sod has been turned on the final stages of the $150 million Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment.

The start of works for the new three-storey clinical health services building was followed by the unveiling of designs for the $35 million Western Cancer Centre, which will provide comprehensive cancer diagnostic and treatment services at the hospital.

“It was great to celebrate two very important project milestones in the one day,” said Project Director at Health Infrastructure, Henry Lau. “It’s an exciting time for residents and the project team looks forward to working with hospital staff and the community to keep up the pace of hard work and dedication.”

Dubbo Hospital’s transformation has included the opening of a new clinical services building as part of Stages 1 and 2 in late 2015, and more recently, a new 34-bed surgical unit, which opened in March this year.

When Stages 3 & 4 care completed, the hospital will provide:
  • A new emergency department and short stay unit
  • A new medical imaging unit
  • A new critical care floor comprising of:
  • Coronary care/stroke unit
  • Intensive care unit
  • Cardiac catheter laboratory
  • A new ambulatory care unit; and
  • A new main entry, drop off zone and car parking; and
  • A new and expanded renal unit will also be delivered as part of Stages 3 and 4.
Construction of the Western Cancer Centre Dubbo will occur at the same time, and will deliver 16 chemotherapy spaces, a bunker for radiation treatment and a PET CT scanner for cancer diagnostics.

Construction on Stage 4 of Dubbo Hospital is scheduled for completion in 2021.
