Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Member for Wakehurst Brad Hazzard today turned the first sod of earth to mark the start of main construction for the $50 million Brookvale Community Health Centre (BCHC).

The multi-storey centre - located on Pittwater Road, opposite Warringah Mall - is a key part of the NSW Government’s $100 million investment in community health on the Northern Beaches.

The BCHC - and two new community health facilities at Mona Vale and Seaforth (‘Dalwood’) - will complement the new Northern Beaches Hospital at Frenchs Forest, which is scheduled to open in 2018.

“Community health centres are a vital part of the health system - they support people to keep well, to stay out of hospital, to function at their best in the community,” Mrs Skinner said.

Mr Hazzard said there was great anticipation in the community about the transformation of the high-profile Pittwater Road site, which will not only house the BCHC but one of the Northern Beaches B-Line stops.

A multi-storey car park will be constructed as part of the BCHC project. It will include 475 spaces, with up to 250 parking spaces available for commuters travelling between the Northern Beaches and the CBD.

“The Brookvale Community Health Centre is just what the doctor ordered – and from today we will watch as it begins to rise from the ground,” Mr Hazzard said.

“It is the perfect site - opposite our major shopping centre and integrated with a BLine stop. It will be convenient and easy to access.”

Services to be offered at the BCHC will include BreastScreen, child and familyhealth, child and youth mental health, chronic and complex care, community adult mental health, acute post-acute care (APAC), home nursing, community drug and alcohol, community nursing, multicultural health, health promotion, oral health,
rehabilitation and aged care.
