First sod turned for Concord Hospital redevelopment

20 February 2019
.
In a significant milestone, the first sod has been turned at Concord Hospital, kicking off main works construction on the NSW Government’s $341 million Stage 1 redevelopment.

Health Infrastructure’s project team joined Sydney Local Health District, Roberts Pizzarotti, hospital staff and political representatives to celebrate the event.

‘Working on the Concord Hospital Redevelopment right from the beginning, it is great to get shovels in the ground and see main works begin’ Health Infrastructure Senior Project Director, Hayley Bell, said.
‘Our project team has worked really hard to get to this point with significant enabling works already undertaken including the relocation of staff to refurbished areas, demolition of several outdated buildings and upgrades to infrastructure.’
Delivering purpose built, state-of-the-art facilities, Stage 1 will include:
  • Rusty Priest Centre for Rehabilitation and Aged Care with ambulatory clinics, assessment and therapy areas and rehabilitation gyms
  • A new comprehensive Cancer Care Centre with additional capacity for day and inpatient services
  • Australia’s first National Centre for Veterans’ Healthcare - continuing the hospital’s proud history of providing specialist services to veterans
Expected to be complete in late 2021, the redevelopment will help clinicians continue to provide first-class healthcare to one of the state’s fastest growing communities.
