Gosford Hospital Redevelopment’s Aboriginal Employment Strategy proves a great success

The $348 million Gosford Hospital Redevelopment is a great example of the NSW Government’s commitment to increase employment opportunities for indigenous workers.

In 2016 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Lendlease and the Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council that has seen more than 100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people employed on the construction site.

The Memorandum of Understanding is empowering the local indigenous community through economic participation, providing them with real life experience that will last with them beyond the completion of the hospital - over two thirds of apprentices on the Gosford site are of indigenous heritage.

Employing local has also been a strong focus for the redevelopment team, having engaged 10 indigenous businesses to work on this project.
