New look revealed for $438 million Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment

Thursday 16 September 2021

Shoalhaven residents can look forward to a larger, integrated hospital precinct with enhanced health services following the release of the masterplan for the $438 million Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment.

The masterplan reveals a new acute care services building which will connect to the existing hospital, as well as state-of the-art health services and greater access to more specialised staff, equipment and technology.

Under the masterplan, the southern end of Nowra Park will be retained as greenspace, including the large blackbutt tree, which is proposed to become a key feature due to its significance to the community.

The new Shoalhaven Hospital is set to feature:

  • cardiology inpatient ward, close observation unit and cardiac catheterisation laboratory

  • new Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit

  • MRI service, nuclear medicine department and interventional radiology

  • two new medical wards and expanded outpatient clinics

  • additional operating theatres, new overnight surgical ward and a dedicated day surgery zone

  • new acute mental health ward

  • new maternity clinic, Midwifery Group Practice and paediatric unit

  • aged care ward with more beds and expanded outpatient clinics.

The existing hospital will undergo refurbishments to allow for new and expanded services.

The project is being delivered by Health Infrastructure in partnership with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

Work is set to start on the project early next year.
