Wagga Wagga Base Hospital reaches high point

20 February 2020

The $431 million Wagga Wagga Health Service Redevelopment has met a major milestone with the Stage 3 Ambulatory Care Building reaching its highest point.

Health Infrastructure’s project team joined hospital staff, the Local Health District and NSW Government representatives to celebrate the traditional topping out ceremony.

The event marked completion of the building’s fifth and highest level with the signing of a steel beam and placement of a tree on the roof. The third and final stage of the redevelopment brings world-class health services closer to home for the benefit of Murrumbidgee communities.

Construction of the new building is on track to open in 2021 and will include:
  • 20 additional acute aged care inpatient beds
  • 8 additional rehabilitation inpatient beds
  • older person’s mental health inpatient unit with an additional 8 beds
  • hospital in the home service
  • renal dialysis unit (8 new chairs plus 2 training chairs)
  • oral health service with 2 new chairs
  • ambulatory, primary and community care clinic rooms, including prosthetic, orthotics, mental health and drug and alcohol outpatient services
  • staff administration hub
  • new education area, including library, conference rooms and lecture theatre
Stage 3 also includes relocation of BreastScreen NSW services to central Wagga Wagga, 100 additional free car parks and landscaping on the campus.
