Last week’s Community and Staff Open Day at St George Hospital was a huge success with with over 1,400 people in attendance.
Cutting the ribbon: L to R – Vicki Manning, Cath Whitehurst (slightly back), Mark Coure MP, Leisa Rathborne, Clare Loveday and Allan Ajami.
Taking place on Saturday 14 October, visitors were given the opportunity to tour the new Acute Services Building (ASB) and hear staff presentations before it becomes fully operational and open to the public later this month. Sculptor Lindy Lee was also in attendance, giving a talk on her suspended artwork.
The eight-storey ASB falls under the $227 million St George Hospital Redevelopment, and includes:
- A new intensive care department
- Eight new operating theatres
- 128 new inpatient beds
- Two cardiac catheter laboratories
- A new sterilising department
- A new roof top helipad.
Over 60 volunteers gave up their time to help the day run as smoothly as it did, performing various tasks from driving the lifts and entertaining the public with mock operations, as well as the Kogarah Concert Band who provided music for the crowds.
