Construction on the expanded $17.5 million Mental Health Unit at Port Macquarie officially started on Monday, marking an exciting new chapter in mental health services for the local community.

“The sod turn event marks an important milestone in the delivery of improved Mental Health care in the Port Macquarie Region,” says Project Director at Health Infrastructure, David Beddingfield.

The construction contract for the new unit has been awarded to A W Edwards, and will include:

  • secure patient rooms with natural light
  • quiet spaces for relaxation
  • a multifunctional activity room
  • dining and lounge areas
  • dedicated staff stations
  • secure landscaped courtyards
  • an interview room.

Health Infrastructure and Mid North Coast Local Health District will continue to keep staff and the community informed as work progresses.
