Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Member for Lismore Thomas George today visited Lismore Hospital to celebrate the completion of the first section of the $80.25 million Stage 3A redevelopment.
Construction of the emergency department and renal unit is now complete, with the finishing touches also being put on the new 270-space, multi-storey car park, which is worth $9.3 million.
Mrs Skinner said the hospital’s new 12-storey south tower - which includes a helipad on top - reached its highest point in December. The tower is now the highest structure in Lismore.
“The new and improved Lismore Hospital will have more spacious treatment areas and light-filled rooms throughout. We can now see into the completed and expansive emergency department, which is over three-and-a-half times bigger than the current emergency department,” Mrs Skinner said.
“Northern Rivers patients requiring renal care will soon benefit from the significantly expanded renal unit, which includes provision for up to 21 patient bays.”
Mr George said the community could clearly see the progress made on the project, which began three years ago.
“I thank the builders and trades people who have contributed so far and will continue working on this project over the next stage of the redevelopment,” Mr George said.
The Lismore Hospital Stage 3A redevelopment is jointly funded by the NSW Government ($20 million) and the Commonwealth ($60.25 million through the Health and Hospitals Fund).
The NSW Government has also committed $180 million to the Stage 3B redevelopment, which will deliver additional clinical services, including new operating theatres, a birthing unit and special care nursery, medical imaging services and a range of new wards.
John Holland has been engaged under an early contractor involvement procurement method for Stage 3B construction. John Holland will develop and finalise design documentation and undertake further enabling works to prepare the site for main works construction.
