Health Infrastructure is working with Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, Children’s Cancer Institute and UNSW Sydney to deliver Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre. 

OVERVIEW

The Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre will bring together world-leading clinical care, research and teaching together under one roof, to transform kids’ health.

Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct also includes UNSW Sydney’s Health Translation Hub, the Prince of Wales Hospital Acute Services Building and both the UNSW and Health Campuses.

This is a once in a generation opportunity to transform paediatric services and meet the needs of the community now and into the future. The NSW Government has committed $478 million towards the $658 million redevelopment of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1, including the creation of the Neurosciences Comprehensive Care and Research Centre.

• Help meet growth through new contemporary spaces with a focus on the holistic experience and wellbeing of the patient 
• Bring together the Children’s Cancer Institute and the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick’s Kids Cancer Centre to deliver integrated, specialist cancer treatment and research 
• Concentrate and integrate scientists, clinicians and educators in a true learning healthcare environment, enabling accelerated care outcomes to inform and transform the treatment of childhood cancer 
• Provide a modern, fit-for-purpose and culturally-welcoming health facility. 
• The Neurosciences Comprehensive Care and Research Centre will improve care and treatment of children from across the state with severe and complex neurological disorders by integrating clinical specialties and services in one location. 

• Optimised shared services across the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct, including medical imaging and logistics
• The Neurosciences Comprehensive Care and Research Centre, that will deliver integrated specialist care for children with neurological disorders, including:
  • complex epilepsy
  • brain tumours
  • neuromuscular disorders
  • traumatic brain injury.
• A new children’s Emergency Department and emergency short-stay unit with direct links to new and existing services
• A new children’s Intensive Care Unit
• Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre, the first facility of its kind in Australia, including state-of-the-art technologically advanced wet and dry laboratory spaces; education, training and research spaces; new oncology inpatient units, and patient and family focused retreat areas; and a new day oncology unit
• A new paediatric Virtual Care Centre that will transform children and young people’s health through choice, access and digital healthcare; delivering coordinated and efficient services that can be accessed 24/7 by patients and their families so they may receive care closer to home
• New inpatient units for medical and surgical specialties
• A new medical short-stay unit
• New front of house and High Street drop-off
• A new pharmacy, back of house and logistics services
• Over 3,000 square metres of publicly accessible green space for patients, families, staff and the community.
