Health Infrastructure is developing a new Tweed Valley Hospital and completed interim upgrades to the existing Tweed Hospital, to deliver increased healthcare services to meet the current and future needs of the Tweed-Byron community.
OVERVIEW
The Tweed Valley Hospital will deliver a new state-of-the-art facility that has more beds and greater capability to serve the growing Tweed-Byron community.
The development will provide residents access to more health services closer to home, enabling patients to remain near family, friends and existing support networks while receiving treatment.
The new hospital will have an embedded learning, development and research facility that will support educational opportunities for staff. It will also provide a contemporary working environment to help attract and retain a skilled workforce.
The NSW Government is investing $723.3 million to develop the Tweed Valley Hospital.
BENEFITS
The project will:
- Provide more than 190 new beds and 16 new Emergency Department treatment spaces and offer new and expanded local health services
- Deliver patient-centred care through integrated health services in modern facilities
- Improve patient health outcomes through enhanced inpatient, Emergency Department, ambulatory care, renal dialysis, radiotherapy and chemotherapy services
- Reduce the need for 5,000 patients to travel outside the region each year to receive treatment
- Deliver a learning, development and research facility that will support educational opportunities for staff.
SCOPE
The project includes:
- 430 overnight and day only beds
- Expanded Emergency Department with 42 treatment spaces
- Expanded outpatient services with more clinics
- 12 operating theatres, an increase of five from the existing Tweed Hospital
- New interventional cardiology service
- New radiotherapy service as part of integrated cancer care, including a PET-CT suite
- Outdoor green spaces
- Campus roads and car park.
