The Cooma Hospital redevelopment has delivered modern, fit for purpose spaces to support the delivery of contemporary models of care to Cooma and surrounding communities.
OVERVIEW
The Cooma Hospital Redevelopment includes upgrades to existing facilities to deliver high quality healthcare for the Cooma region now and in the future.
Cooma Hospital’s expanded Emergency Department opened in July 2022, providing the hospital’s emergency team with additional capacity, improved treatment spaces, as well as upgraded equipment and new furniture.
The new Maternity Department opened in February 2023, providing high-quality, modern birthing rooms and facilities with improved connections between a range of departments including emergency and operating theatres.
The new, purpose-built Ambulatory Care Centre opened to the Cooma community in December 2023, bringing together Community Nursing, Child and Family Health, Podiatry, Medical Specialist Clinics and NSW Health Pathology services in new, contemporary spaces.
The NSW Government investedover $26.5 million to redevelop Cooma Hospital.

The project:
- Delivered health services to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the local community
- Improved accessibility to an expanded range of health services, including emergency, ambulatory care, inpatient care and maternity
- Providing positive economic and social benefits within the Cooma and surrounding communities through employment, skills development and local expenditure during construction and into operations.
SCOPE
The project included:
- A new fit-for-purpose ambulatory care centre
- An expanded Emergency Department
- A new maternity department
- Relocation of pathology.
Final works including the expansion of the medical imaging unit will be completed by the Local Health District.
