OVERVIEW
Planning is underway to relocate mental health services located at Cumberland Hospital West Campus to a new, purpose-built Integrated Mental Health Complex (IMHC) at the Westmead Health Precinct.
The $460 million investment will transform mental health services across the Western Sydney Local Health District and deliver improved care for patients in line with state and national mental health reforms.
SCOPE
The new IMHC will be connected to Westmead Hospital, providing closer integration between the District’s mental health and other clinical services at the Westmead Health Precinct.
The new facility will be designed to deliver contemporary, best-practice models of care allowing patients to be treated in a therapeutic environment that supports safe and dignified, trauma-informed, recovery-focussed care.
Services in the new IMHC include:
- A Mental Health Acute Assessment Unit;
- Mental Health ICU and HDU beds;
- Adult mental health beds including acute, sub-acute and non-acute inpatient beds;
- Youth and Adolescent mental health beds;
- Eating Disorder beds; and
- Older persons inpatient unit beds.
As part of the project, mental health inpatient and outpatient services will be relocated from Cumberland Hospital West Campus to the new IMHC, to create a truly integrated mental health facility at Westmead.
The project is being delivered by Health Infrastructure in partnership with Western Sydney Local Health District.
NEXT STEPS
Planning for the new IMHC is currently underway.
The project team is working closely with consumers, their families, carers and staff to ensure the facility is purpose-built for mental health patients. Information about further consultation opportunities will be announced as planning progresses.
