The Sub Acute Beds Program at Broken Hill Hospital provides a 10 bed non-acute Mental Health Unit with a strong focus on care for people across the Far West.
The $6.3 million project was funded by COAG under the Sub-Acute Bed Program.
OVERVIEW
The service supports the reintegration of the mental health patient into the community, and will provide support for family intervention and family-based care. The facility reflects a domestic environment with individual patient rooms, and a strong connection with outdoor areas. The facility at Broken Hill provides rehabilitation and recovery services to adults between the ages of 16 and 64 who experience mental illness.
The service is designed for people suitable for discharge from an acute mental health inpatient setting but who would benefit from further support in a less restrictive environment (step-down) and/ or mental health patients from the community requiring early intervention/relapse prevention via short-term respite, in order to prevent hospitalisation (step-up).
Construction commenced in November 2011 and was completed by November 2012.
