OVERVIEW
The NSW Government is investing $350 million in the Canterbury Hospital redevelopment to expand the current facility and deliver upgrades to existing infrastructure.
The Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment will be the biggest upgrade of the hospital in 26 years. The redevelopment will ensure the facility is able to respond to the health needs of the growing community and provide contemporary facilities to enable the dedicated health staff to deliver high-quality care.
Once complete, the redevelopment will deliver a new and expanded Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department, purpose built in-patient units, additional surgical theatres, enhanced antenatal facilities and increased ambulatory outpatient care capacity.
PROJECT SCOPE
In response to the Clinical Services Plan, new and increased health services and facilities have been identified as priorities for the redevelopment, including:
- a new expanded and enhanced Intensive Care Unit
- new purpose built adult in-patient accommodation
- expanded and enhanced Emergency Department
- additional surgical theatres
- enhanced and expanded antenatal facilities
- additional ambulatory and outpatient care capacity
- other clinical and non-clinical enhancements to existing and retained facilities, to support changing models of care
- improved accessibility to the campus, including internal access, urban spaces, landscaping and wayfinding.
The redevelopment will also maximise the capacity of existing facilities available at the Canterbury Hospital campus, including the main hospital building and the Canterbury Health Centre.
