Health Infrastructure is working in partnership with Albury Wodonga Health, the Victorian Department of Health and Victorian Health Building Authority to expand and enhance a range of health services and facilities for the Albury Wodonga region.
OVERVIEW
The Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project will deliver a major new regional hospital and improved health services to meet the health needs of Albury, Wodonga and border communities, now and into the future.
The project will deliver a substantial new, multi-storey clinical services building at the Albury Hospital campus and upgrades to existing facilities to support the hospital expansion.
Once complete, the Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project will deliver improved patient safety, reduce the duplication of services and travel between the Wodonga Hospital and Albury Hospital sites, and increase the capability and responsiveness of the health service to meet the future health care needs of the community.
The NSW, Victorian and Australian governments are investing a combined $558 million in the project.
BENEFITS

- Bring clinical services and expertise onto a single hospital campus, making the hospital experience safer and more efficient.
- Deliver the best possible health care environment in modern facilities that reflect the needs of the local community and support contemporary models of care.
- Provide equitable access to health care for the border community by enabling the hospital to fulfil its role as a regional health hub.
- Deliver satisfying, contemporary working environments to help attract, train and retain skilled health care staff.
SCOPE
The scope of the project will continue to be confirmed as part of the planning and design process and is expected to include:
- more medical and surgical beds
- new operating theatres
- expansion of outpatient and specialist treatment spaces
- a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- relocation of maternity and newborn services
- a new children’s inpatient unit
- contemporary new adult acute mental health inpatient unit to replace Nolan House
- more car parking, including a multi-storey carpark
- a new helipad.
PROJECT STATUS
Building a hospital involves three key phases – planning, design and delivery. The Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project is currently in the design phase.
Staff, stakeholders and the community were consulted throughout 2023 as part of the project’s early planning and master plan development process.
The master plan for the Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project was finalised for stakeholder and community feedback in October 2023.
The master plan sets out the vision and a framework for development at the Albury Hospital campus including the optimal location of the new clinical services building and future expansion zones.
CONSULTATION
Health staff, stakeholders and the community were invited to provide feedback on the master plan from 16 October 2023 to 24 November 2023 through a series of consultation activities.
Feedback was invited on a range of matters relating to the project planning and design. An overview of the consultation activities and feedback received is provided in the Project Update: Consultation summary – February 2024.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback, which will inform the development of the concept design and other planning and design activities. There will be more opportunities for the community, health staff and stakeholders to provide feedback as the project planning and design progresses.
Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital Project – 2023 Master Plan Report
The Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital Project – 2023 Master Plan Report has been published in response to the community’s feedback during master plan consultation in October and November 2023, which sought additional technical information in relation to the planning and design of the hospital.
The 2023 Master Plan Report provides additional detail on the preliminary studies and technical inputs that have shaped the master plan. The information on the clinical services and project scope is indicative only at this early stage of planning.
The final project and clinical scope, including bed numbers, will be determined through the planning and design process as it progresses.
Some information in the 2023 Master Plan Report has been redacted for the privacy of individuals and to meet legal obligations.
