Construction underway on $50 million car park

Tuesday 8 December

Construction of a $50 million multi-storey car park for the new Liverpool Hospital has begun, promising families improved access to healthcare in south-western Sydney.

Funding for the new seven storey car park is in addition to the $740 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct, which will transform Liverpool Hospital into a world class health, research and education precinct.

The seven-storey car park will provide an additional 500 parking spaces for the campus, improving accessibility to health services for patients and their families.

Solar panels will also be incorporated into the car park’s structure, improving the sustainability of the hospital.

ADCO Constructions has been awarded the contract for the car park, and together with Health Infrastructure, has embraced the opportunity to incorporate the artwork of contemporary Aboriginal artist Danielle Mate Sullivan into the site’s hoarding design.

The artwork celebrates the Georges River, which features strongly across the region and has been a significant meeting place and source of food and water for thousands of years. The aerial perspective depicts the waters of the river, along with meeting places and those gathering at them – reflecting both past and present.

The NSW Government is investing a record $3 billion into health infrastructure across South Western Sydney, including projects at Liverpool, Campbelltown, Bankstown-Lidcombe and Bowral and District Hospitals.

Some of the expanded and new services at Liverpool Hospital include:
  • additional 200 inpatient beds
  • doubling of chemotherapy treatment spaces
  • a Cancer Centre of Excellence
  • expanded and refurbished emergency department
  • expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • new maternity and paediatric inpatient beds.
