Inverell Hospital one step closer with the first sod turned

The hard-packed grounds of Inverell have been broken, with the first sod turned on Stage 1A of the $60 million Inverell Hospital Redevelopment last week.

“This is a great moment for the community of Inverell,” said Project Director at Health Infrastructure, David Bedingfield. “Enabling works by contractors will be increasing over the coming months as the foundations for a great project are laid.”

A fly-through video heightened excitement on the day, providing residents with the first glimpse of their new hospital.

$30 million has been committed to Stage 1A, which will deliver a new emergency department and inpatient unit. This includes emergency care for children and mental health patients, as well as new paediatric and maternity facilities, palliative care, medical imaging, operating theatres, day surgery and a new main entry.

Stage 1B was announced in June of this year, with an additional $30 million committed by the Government to refurbish parts of the existing hospital for ambulatory care and community health functions.
