Before carrying out demolition that will enable the construction of Goulburn's new four storey Clinical Services Building, the iconic date palm located at the front of Goulburn Base Hospital's Springfield House is being relocated in an effort to protect and salvage this important piece of history.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council has kindly provided a new site for the date palm on Lower Sterne Street, which will help to ensure the Goulburn community continues to enjoy the palm well into the future.
Tree relocation is a complex process and an Arborist has been engaged to safely excavate and extract the palm from its current location.
Relocation will take place over Spring as the warmer weather will assist with the tree’s establishment in its new home. The Date Palm relocation plan also carefully considers the safest route of travel from Goulburn Base Hospital to Lower Sterne Street, which may involve taking a longer route out of town.
