Sutherland Hospital’s new $88.5 million Operating Theatre Complex celebrated its highest point of construction with a traditional topping out ceremony today.
The redevelopment of the Sutherland Hospital Operating Theatre Complex will provide expanded operating theatre capacity to meet current and future healthcare needs of the growing Sutherland Shire and surrounding community.
The project will increase the number of operating and procedures rooms from six to 10 as well as provide a new surgical short stay, recovery spaces, more staff amenities and a Central Sterilising Services Department.
The project includes the provision of a new MRI suite so patients can access MRI services closer to home.
The design of the new facility has been shaped by feedback from patients, community members, clinicians and staff via more than 50 consultation sessions.
The MRI facility is due to open for patients in 2023, with construction on the operating theatre complex expected to be completed in 2024.
