Lismore Base Hospital’s North Tower tops out

21 January 2019

Less than a year since construction began, Lismore Base Hospital’s North Tower has reached its final height!

Northern NSW Local Health District Chief Executive, Wayne Jones, celebrated the ‘topping out’ with health staff, construction workers and the community.

A cute little native Zena shrub was unveiled to mark completion of the eighth and final level.

With an original commitment of $180 million, the North Tower Project doubled its storeys to eight in 2017 with a $52.5 million boost from the NSW Government.

The combined $232.5 million third stage of the redevelopment will meet the needs of the region’s community now and into the future.

The North Tower will complement the already highly-regarded hospital which continues to attract the world’s best clinicians and medical staff.

Elective surgery referred to the hospital has vastly increased since completion of the South Tower in 2017.

The North Tower will house:
  • New inpatient wards, including one medical and one surgical ward
  • New intensive care unit and high dependency unit
  • New imaging/radiology unit
  • New peri-operative unit
  • New pharmacy
  • Hospital administration facilities
  • Additional plant facilities

Completion of the North Tower is expected in 2020.

Refurbishment works will then begin on the existing hospital, consolidating community health and ambulatory care services, and delivering new education, training and research facilities.

With new and upgraded facilities, Lismore Base Hospital will ensure provision of first-class health care to the Northern Rivers’ diverse and changing population for decades to come.
