Communities in Western Sydney are being given their first look inside the new
Integrated Mental Health Complex at the Westmead Health Precinct, which when complete will be the largest facility of its kind in NSW.
The fly-through video animation showcases the mental health complex, which is designed to support recovery in a safe, dignified, and person-centred environment.
The Integrated Mental Health Complex will support contemporary best-practice models of care, allowing consumers to be treated in a therapeutic setting that supports treatment and recover.
Courtyards, gardens, social spaces, calming rooms and welcoming reception areas are among the highlights of the purpose-built facility, which will deliver much-needed new and expanded mental health care facilities for Western Sydney communities.
Consumers, carers, staff, and community have been involved at every stage of the planning process to ensure these facilities support consumer wellbeing, enable new models of care, and provide safe, modern working environments for our staff.
The new facility will be connected to Westmead Hospital to improve the experience for consumers, staff, carers and visitors, and enhanced integration by co-locating mental health services with other clinical services at Westmead Health Precinct.
The new Integrated Mental Health Complex will include:
- Acute mental health beds including beds for youth, adolescents, adults, older persons and people living with eating disorders
- Mental health intensive care and high dependency units
- A mental health assessment area
- Sub and non-acute mental health beds
- Multidisciplinary ambulatory and outpatient services
- Education facilities
- Link bridge to the main hospital building entry, emergency department, Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre and public transport connections.
Early works are underway, with main works expected to start in 2024.
Western Sydney is the state’s fastest growing region and this once-in-a-generation project will ensure local communities have access to world-class mental health facilities closer to home.
The project complements the $700 million
Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program and Western Sydney’s investment in new and upgraded mental health facilities for Western Sydney, including the recently completed Blacktown Hospital Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit and
Westmead Mother and Baby Unit.
