Keys handed over to Port Macquarie Mental Health Unit

Just 12 months since the first sod was turned, keys to the new $17.5 million Port Macquarie Mental Health Unit have been officially handed to the Mid North Coast Local Health District.
Health Infrastructure’s project team joined the District, AW Edwards, mental health staff, consumers and political representatives to celebrate the milestone.
The facility will double the number of mental health beds available to the community, delivering a much-needed boost to the Hospital’s capacity to manage mental health issues in the community.
And ongoing input from consumers, doctors, nurses and mental health professionals has ensured the facility is purpose-built to meet the needs of younger and older patients facing complex health circumstances.
The Project Team is especially proud of the contemporary light-filled spaces, quiet areas and landscaped courtyards that will create a more therapeutic environment for patients, staff and visitors.
The expanded facility features:
  • 24 acute beds (doubled from the current 12 beds)
  • Flexible patient care zones
  • Dedicated staff stations
  • Secure patient rooms with natural light
  • Quiet spaces for relaxation
  • A multi-functional activity room
  • Secured landscaped courtyards.
The facility complements the $104 million Port Macquarie Base Hospital redevelopment and will open later in 2019, following operational commissioning.
