Mt Druitt Community Dialysis Centre awarded Health Project of the Year!

In a celebration of collaboration and community, Health Infrastructure and the Western Sydney LHD were last night awarded Health Project of the Year at the inaugural Boomtown! awards.

The Mt Druitt Community Dialysis Centre - part of the $700 million Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals expansion - drew the judges’ attention as a great example of community focused collaboration. Staff, patients, carers and the community were involved in planning and design: a 'true local' project.

The $3.5 million facility makes it easier for patients to access contemporary treatment closer to home: a critical service a community whose members are 50% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than elsewhere in Sydney.

The Centre integrates nursing, allied health and support services, and provides training, research and employment. The team are particularly proud of local Aboriginal arts and a healing garden: contributing to patient healing.

The award was accepted by Sam Sangster and Sue-Anne Redmond on behalf of Health Infrastructure and the district. In more good news, the Blacktown Acute Services Building was recognised by the Master Builders Association earlier this week, with AW Edwards awarded the ‘MBA Excellence in Construction Award for Safety Innovation 2018’.
