Patients requiring specialised end of life care will be able to receive it closer to home after the first in-patient palliative care unit opened on Sydney’s northern beaches today.
The 10-bed Palliative Care Unit and 10-bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit at Mona Vale Hospital forms part of the NSW Government's $600 million commitment to upgrade health facilities on the northern beaches.
In addition to palliative care, the new building includes a Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit which provides early assessment and treatment for people experiencing health conditions associated with aging, such as a tendency to fall, reduced mobility and cognitive impairment.
The new facility will be open to patients from Monday 8 February.
