Cultural organisations are invited to submit their projects to the Arts and Health Award, proudly supported by Health Infrastructure as part of IMAGinE Awards 2023.
Now in its second year, the Arts and Health Award is a partnership between Museums & Galleries of NSW and NSW Health Infrastructure. It acknowledges the significant role galleries, museums, and Aboriginal cultural spaces across the state play in enhancing the wellbeing and health outcomes of communities in NSW.
This award aims to foster partnerships between cultural organisations and their Local Health Districts, enabling the development of meaningful programs and projects that positively impact community health and wellbeing outcomes.
The winner of the inaugural award in 2022 was Gosford Regional Gallery and Gosford Hospital for their innovative project, Weaving for Wellbeing. The collaboration started in 2017 and has since grown to include a variety of engaging programs at the hospital.
Exposure to the arts has been shown to have a profound impact on patient health and wellbeing, as well as promoting health literacy within the community. Health Infrastructure delivers NSW Health’s Arts in Health Program in partnership with Local Health Districts, artists and communities to integrate arts into health facilities to create engaging public health spaces and improve clinical health and wellbeing outcomes for patients, staff and visitors.
The culmination of the Weaving for Wellbeing project will be an exhibition featuring collaborative weaving works. These artworks will be displayed both in the exhibition space and throughout the hospital wards where workshops were conducted. The exhibition aims to foster a sense of ownership and pride within the hospital, creating a strong sense of place for patients, staff, and visitors alike.
Cultural organisations are now invited to submit their projects by 5pm Monday 28 August 2023 for a chance to receive the $10,000 award, which will be presented at the 2023 IMAGinE Awards.
